Throughout the Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, our eight regional service centers provide confidential business consulting and training workshops for a wide array of businesses. Our consulting services and most of our training workshops are offered at no cost.
Here’s how the SBDC works
SBDC consulting services are free
Through partial funding from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), our seven host institutions including our network host, California State University, Fullerton local organization grant funds, and more SBDC consulting and training services are offered at no cost to clients.
Our consulting services are not only offered to you at no cost, but are also confidential and customized to your specific needs. In adherence to SBDC accreditation standards, all our consultants are required to follow strict confidentiality policies.
Our consultants are paid and experienced
Our consultants are compensated through our program’s funding. Each consultant is uniquely experienced in a variety of different business areas, processes, and industries. To learn more about our consultants, check out our team page!
Training opportunities are offered at a nominal fee or at no cost
Our training workshops and seminars are mostly offered at no cost or for a small nominal fee. Each SBDC location hosts workshops uniquely made for their clients’ needs and are priced accordingly, thus pricing and materials may vary.
We provide our clients access to our extensive network
Once you’re a client, you will have access to our extensive list of network partners which include public agencies, service providers, and non-profits, all of which provide you with additional resources and connections for your business.
We also provide our “success story” clients with publicity through grand opening and ribbon-cutting events, which is featured in local press and outreach efforts – all at no expense for the client. Our “success story” clients are also featured across SBDC marketing channels, SBA materials, and our network partner promotions as well.

So you’ve signed up for services,
here’s what next
Your first appointment
During your first appointment, your SBDC consultant will review your business needs and create an action plan to assist in reaching your objectives over a feasible timeline. Your consultant will also share their consulting process and share how they can benefit your business by sharing resources and tools you can use. Towards the end of your appointment, your SBDC consultant will create a follow-up plan for your next appointment.
For your first appointment, consider bringing your:
- Business Plan
- Marketing Materials
- Your Product
Your next appointment
During your follow up appointment, your consultant will go further in-depth with the action plan created during your first appointment and begin addressing specifics. Next, they will begin to work with you to set goals, discuss new approaches to tackle your project and continue with your action plan to keep moving forward. Each client’s appointments are unique to their business and needs so each appointment will differ for each client depending on their needs. At the end of your second session, your consultant will discuss the next steps, follow-up items, and your progress.
